The way we interact with digital worlds is evolving rapidly, driven by the pursuit of ever more immersive, secure, and sustainable experiences. The latest advances in miniaturization, efficiency, and seamless integration with AR/VR solutions and smart glasses are opening up entirely new possibilities for both manufacturers and users. With the introduction of the new generation of FIREFLY™ IREDs SFH 4030B and SFH 4060B, ams Osram is setting new standards for infrared LEDs in these AR and VR applications.
In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, Virtual Reality (VR) is advancing toward unprecedented levels of immersion, seamlessness, energy efficiency, and connectivity. These advancements are made possible by innovations that, while remarkably compact, possess the power to fundamentally redefine the user experience, quietly operating at the core of next-generation devices. With the introduction of the new generation of FIREFLY™ IREDs SFH 4030B and SFH 4060B, ams Osram launches two new infrared LEDs (IRED) solutions to meet the demands of next-generation AR and VR headsets. Leveraging advanced IR:6 thin-film chip technology, these LEDs deliver up to 50% brighter infrared illumination and 33% higher efficiency, resulting in longer battery life and optimized system performance.
Notably, the new generation of FIREFLY™ SFH 4030B and SFH 4060B are the first in their class to feature a fully black package, setting a new benchmark in terms of discreet integration and offering maximum design flexibility for nearly invisible placement in AR/VR headsets and smart glasses. Specifically designed for eye tracking, an additional, new 930 nm wavelength has been introduced. It offers an extra option to operate the system within the optimal range of maximum camera sensitivity, while simultaneously minimizing the red-glow effect (more info).
