The mainSENSOR measuring principle from Micro-Epsilon unites the advantages of two sensor types. Based on the combination of inductive sensors and magnetic sensors, reliable and durable sensor solutions for displacement, distance and rotational speed measurements have evolved. In particular, magneto-inductive sensors are used as alternatives to inductive sensors and proximity sensors in process automation, the packaging industry and in machine monitoring.

The sensors measure the distance to a magnet which is fixed at the measurement object. A change of distance involves a change of the magnetic flow in the sensor element. A sensor coil detects this change. Due to dependent physical effects, this results in a linear relationship between distance and output signal.

Unlike conventional sensors based on the Hall Effect principle, the mainSENSOR has significantly larger measuring ranges, while providing a continuous, linear output signal and offering more favorable pricing (more info).
